Once Edge has left, I fling myself into Miss C’s arms, dropping all my walls. “I’ve missed you so much, Miss Catherine.” She curves her body around me and holds me tight.

“And I be missin’ and frettin’ over you too, chile. You be givin’ us all a great deal to be worryin’ about.”

“I’m sorry,” I sob over her shoulder. This is the first time I’ve been able to let my guard fully down. To know the person holding me, unconditionally loves me. Boxer loves me, but he judges Edge. And that matters to me and I am still trying to work out why it matters to me.

“Now, now… none of that, you don’t need to be apologizin’ for nothin’. Boxer, Edge and all these men are lookin’ out for you.” We stay like this long enough for me to compose myself and be able to talk to her without breaking down.

I pull back and look at her closely. “Your face… what happened?”

“How ‘bout we be gettin’ off this floor and you be savin’ dem questions until you be all cleaned up and dressed in somethin’ more comfortable. As you can be seein’, I be fine. Edge been lookin’ after me because he’s a good man.”

“Miss Catherine...” I take a moment to find the strength to tell her.

“Yes, honeychile?”

I need to tell Miss Catherine before Boxer does; I want it to come from me.

“Miss Catherine…” I blow out a little breath. “I’m pregnant.”

And that’s when I hear Edge curse loudly.
